The Ghost Unit - Chapter 5

Chapter 5

TJ and Qiyanna lie sweaty and tired on TJ's bed. TJ turns to Qiyanna and says 'Like I said no other woman would be able to handle me.'

Qiyanna grins just as TJ's beeper beeps. He grabs for it and looks at the message. 'Shit'. He jumps out of bed and puts on his clothes. 'Make yourself at home. You know your way around the base. Have to make a dash. They want a recon done. There's some intel on insurgents to the south of us.'

Qiyanna frowns and nods her head. He walks up to her and kisses her on her forehead. 'Be good while I'm away.' He says and turns to walk out.

Qiyanna calls out to him 'Better be back soon. You can't keep a wild woman like me starved too long.'
TJ grins and walks out.

He jogs his way to the sit room. He recognizes the Colonel standing at the desk and another elderly gentleman standing next to him. There is something about him that TJ can't place.

'Ah TJ so nice of you to come so quickly' says the Colonel. He motions him towards the gentleman next to him. 'This is General Francois Reibery and he's here on assignment from Interpol. He would like to have a word with you.' The Colonel turns to The General. 'I shall leave the 2 of you alone now.'

The General replies 'Actually it’s a nice day outside and I'd like to take a walk and talk if that's ok with Major James.'

'Fine with me General.'

TJ and The General leave the room and head towards the north of the base. They start walking around the camp near the perimeter.

The General looks around to make sure there was no one in earshot before he talks. 'Major what I am going to discuss with you is of utmost importance and of high secrecy. Let me finish and then you can ask me any question you'd like.'

'Ok sir' replies TJ still trying to figure out why somebody at Interpol would want to talk to him.

'First let me properly introduce myself. I am actually General Vladimir Bolchikov from the KGB. Francois Reibery is a cover.'

TJ automatically reaches for his gun.

'There is no need for that Major. I actually have come here on a mission from Interpol. Let me explain.'

'Go ahead. You better have a good reason.'

'Oh I do. I'm here to offer you a job with Interpol.'

'What?' replies a startled TJ.

'The Interpol is putting together a team of the finest soldiers and intelligence officers from different agencies across the world. I was selected to head this team.'

'You're joking right?'

'No Major I'm not. If you are interested I shall continue or else you are welcome to walk away.'

'I'd like to see what you have to say. Who else is on the team? Why me?'

'You are the first Major and the reason is you are one of the finest soldiers I've ever had the priviledge of seeing in battle. You also know how to lead a covert team. I need that.'

'You've seen me in battle?'

'Oh Major there's a lot the KGB knows that you people think we don't.'

TJ grunts.

'I was also thinking maybe you can go back to your room and call the Lieutenant. You might want her on the team as well.'

'What?'

'Don't be so surprised. That's the power of this team.'

'But you said there's nobody else.'

'No soldiers yes. But I have this whiz kid on my tech team and a whole bunch of others who work to maintain the facility specially designed for the team'

'Tell me more about this team.'

'This unit is called the Ghost Unit. It's a covert team as I mentioned before.

He produces a document and holds it out to TJ. 'This is the red seal of the Director of Interpol. It's for you if you choose to accept the offer.'

Trinnean looks down at the letter in the General's hand. He recognizes the insignia of the Interpol. He still is hesitant as to why they would need such a unit. The thought of being part of a secret covert team definitely had a ring to it.

'What is the catch?' asks TJ.

The General clears his throat and says 'You have to die.'

TJ drops his jaw. 'What the f...' He gets interrupted by the General.

'Wait. Let me explain.'

TJ nods his head letting the General explain.

'Since we are taking the best of the best from different agencies, each of you has already made a name and an image for yourselves. Which means...'

'Which means we won't be a covert team as our faces will be recognizable' continues TJ.

'That's right. Now do you understand what I mean?' says the General.

'Yes. But how are you going to stage a death? Not to mention the deaths of all the members of the team?'

'That is something we will have to work on. I have another gentleman I need to go see who might be able to help with that.'

'But General, would it not be strange if top soldiers or agents from the top agencies all disappear or are found dead?'

'Yes which is why we will take a year or more to get the team fully operational. Till then you and Lieutenant Okawa will help me put this team together should you both choose to do so.'

'What makes you so sure she'll want to join?'

'Well I'm not. The convincing her is part of your job as I'm sure you'd like to have her on the team.'
TJ grins. The General stretches his hand out again. This time TJ takes the letter from the General. 'Count me in Sir.'

'I knew you'd say yes' says the General. He shakes TJ's hand. 'Let me know after you speak to Lieutenant Okawa and we'll take it from there.'

'I'm sure she'll say yes as well General. So start the planning.'

The 2 men separate and walk in opposite directions.
